Karen Lindsay
Lindsay received her M.A. in History of Art from the University of California at Berkeley, studied at the International Center of Photography and the School of Visual Arts, as well as abroad in France, Germany, and Japan. Lindsay’s series of documentary art films was broadcast on public television and shown at the New York, Toronto, Chicago, and Berlin Film festivals. She has taught photography and art workshops at the International Center of Photography, National Academy School and the Educational Alliance Art School among other schools.
Cyanotypes (FALL)

Create images rather than capture them. The cyanotype photographic process has many expressive possibilities for the adventurous image-maker. Dating from 1842, this historic Prussian blue process offers a compelling alternative to modern digital prints.
Topics will include the history of photography, photograms, creating negatives, paper, and substrate selection, exposing and developing prints, bleaching, toning, and lumen prints. Most materials provided and all levels are welcome.

Create images rather than capture them. Expressive possibilities in historic photographic processes offer a compelling alternative to modern digital prints. Fine art papers, hand applied archival emulsions, and the mercurial effects of chemistry and changing light provide surprises and opportunities for the adventurous image maker. Topics will include cyanotypes, Van Dyke brown, bleaching, toning, paper selection, photograms, and the history of photography. Most materials will be provided. Open to all levels.
