The Elements of Sculpture
Kathryn Cameron

In this course, we will explore the aesthetic and conceptual possibilities of a variety of materials such as paper, paper clay, recycled materials, and metal using them through the three-dimensional form. The basic principles of sculpture will be discussed; line, color, value, shape, form, space, scale, texture, balance mass, and volume. Historical practices, techniques, and other artists working in the medium will be introduced through lectures, group critiques, and discussions. We will begin with the process of ideation, which includes creating sketches, material studies, and the making of small prototypes. Then we move into the sculpture making process. Artists will be encouraged to work from their choice of subjects, themes, and concepts. Beginners to advanced students are welcomed.
